High court grants doctors relief: Negligence case hangs on report
Referring to the Supreme Court order in the case of Jacob Mathew v. State of Punjab & Anr., the Madhya Pradesh High Court recently reiterated that a doctor accused of medical negligence cannot be prosecuted without the report of an expert committee. With this observation, the bench granted relief to a doctor and set aside the criminal proceedings against him.
The bench was considering the plea by a doctor seeking directions to quash the FIR registered against him and the criminal case pending before the Chief Judicial Magistrate for alleged medical negligence.

Kanpur hospital death sparks allegations of negligence and assault by doctors
Tension prevailed at the LPS Institute of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in Kanpur after a patient admitted for chest pain died during treatment. The patient's kin alleges that the death was due to the doctor's negligence.
Following the complaint, the Director of Cardiology, Dr Rakesh Verma has formed a five-member team to investigate the allegations. After two days, the team will submit the report and further action will be taken.

NMC delays MBBS seat cap rule: Tamil Nadu plans new medical colleges
With the deferment of the National Medical Commission's (NMC) rule of capping the total number of MBBS seats in a particular State/UT, the State Health Department of Tamil Nadu will apply for new medical colleges in the State.
In this regard, the officials at the State Health Department informed TOI regarding the State policy to have at least one new medical college in every district. Soon the Government will apply for new colleges at Tenkasi, Mayiladuthurai, Tirupathur, Perambalur, Ranipet, Kancheepuram, and Kallakurichi, the officials informed the Daily.

Kauvery hospital saves 27-year-old with pulmonary hypertension
A 27-year-old man from Africa underwent iife-Saving Pulmonary Endarterectomy after his investigations revealed a serious condition known as Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH) at Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani.
Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH) - a condition characterised by elevated blood pressure in the lung arteries associated with blood clots originating from deep veins in the lower limbs or pelvis. These blood clots can dislodge and travel in the venous system to the lung arteries. When diagnosed early, this is typically treated with anticoagulation for up to six months.
