Moderna updated COVID vaccine approved by UK regulator

The UK drug regulator has said it has approved an updated COVID-19 vaccine by Moderna, making it the second shot to be used in the country's vaccination campaign this autumn.

The updated shot, branded Spikevax, to target the XBB.1.5 variant of Omicron, is indicated for use in adults and children aged 6 months and above.

The approval for the shot from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency follows the European regulatory panel's recommendation on Thursday.

UP DGME announces counselling schedule of mop-up round for NEET PG, NEET MDS admissions

The Directorate General of Medical Education (UP DGME) has announced the conduction of the mop-up round for NEET PG and NEET MDS courses. The detailed schedule has been released.

As per the notice, the registration process can be carried out from 18th September 2023 (5:00 pm) to 20th September 2023 (11:00 am). The registration and security money can be deposited from 18th September 2023 (5:00 pm) to 21st September 2023 (5:00 pm). On 21st September merit list will be declared.

Pig kidney works a record 2 months in donated brain-dead man's body

NYU Langone Health doctors have completed the longest-documented case of a genetically engineered pig kidney functioning in a human body following 61 days of observation.

The procedure, known as a xenotransplant, which involves the transplant of an animal organ into a human, was performed on July 14, 2023, and led by Robert Montgomery, MD, DPhil, the H. Leon Pachter, MD, Professor and chair of the Department of Surgery and director of the NYU Langone Transplant Institute. The organ was removed on September 13, 2023, from a 58-year-old man who had been on a ventilator, with his family’s consent, after being declared dead by neurologic criteria before the xenotransplant.
