INI SS 2026: AIIMS Adds 9 more DM, MCh Seats in Open Round

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has released an addendum announcing revisions in seat availability for the Open Round of Institute of National Importance Super Speciality Entrance Test (INI SS) January 2026 session for admission to DM and MCh courses.

The addendum has been issued in continuation of the earlier notice regarding the vacant seat position for the Open Round of counselling. Therefore, as per the latest communication received from participating institutes, certain seats have been increased in specific courses and institutes.

HC Stays Santiniketan Medical College PG Course Over ‘Fake Patient’ During Inspection

Noting that a fake patient was kept at Santiniketan Medical College and Hospital without any proper case history to show higher patient numbers for recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to start postgraduate courses, the Calcutta High Court ordered a stay on the commencement of the PG courses and compared the situation to a 'Munna Bhai MBBS scenario.'

While hearing the plea, Single Bench Judge Justice Ritabrata Kumar Mitra directed the National Medical Commission (NMC) to send a delegation to inspect the matter within three days after being informed that the irregularity was detected during an inspection at the hospital in Bolpur.

Maharashtra Medical Council to Act on ‘Ghost Signatures’ in Lab Reports

In a shocking case of illegal medical practice, the signature of a pathologist who passed away nearly three months ago continues to appear on fresh laboratory reports across six different locations in Maharashtra.

Raising serious concerns over 'ghost signature' and illegal laboratory practices, the Maharashtra Association of Practising Pathologists and Microbiologists (MAPPM) alleged that several blood investigation reports showed the name of the pathologist who passed away on November 20, 2025.

Prescribing Allopathic Medicines Without Qualification Is Negligence, Consumer Court slaps Rs 2 Lakh compensation for vision loss

Holding that prescribing allopathic medicines without having a recognised medical qualification amounts to a deficiency in service, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has directed Rs 2 lakh compensation to a patient who permanently lost vision after treatment at an eye optical centre in Uttar Pradesh.

"The act of prescribing allopathic medicines by a person not possessed of a recognized medical qualification and not registered under the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, constitutes deficiency in service and negligence by operation of law, irrespective of the outcome of such prescription. In the present case, the injury caused to the petitioner is alleged to be a direct consequence of such illegal practice," the NCDRC observed.
