MBBS Admission: Bombay HC orders medical re-examination of student with locomotor disability
While considering a plea by an MBBS aspirant with a locomotor disability, who had been deemed unfit for studying medical education, the Bombay High Court recently ordered his medical re-examination and directed the All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AIIPMR) to conduct the same.
The concerned student does not have five fingers to his right hand even though his left hand is normal and without any disability. However, he had been disqualified for MBBS admission by the Medical Board of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
His disability is calculated at 60% by Grant Government Medical College and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, which is the MCI Medical Board comprising of three senior Professors from the Departments of Orthopedic, Medicine, and Neurology. They have issued a certificate of disability for NEET admission dated 04.10.2022 declaring the present petitioner Ajinkya Ankush Budle not eligible to pursue the medical course as per the NMC norms.

Scientists developing new diagnostic tool that can deliver health test results in two minutes
Scientists at Swansea University developing a platform that would use Artificial Intelligence to speed up the process of detecting biomarkers in biofluids have shown that the concept could work. It would mean faster test results for health conditions such as cardiovascular disorders, joint quality, and Alzheimer's.
This new diagnostic tool could revolutionise the healthcare sector due to the application of a form of artificial intelligence (AI) – machine learning (ML). The implementation of ML has meant it is possible, for the first time, for results to be delivered within minutes.
Biofluids such as synovial fluid, blood plasma, and saliva contain proteins that are an important biomarker for the diagnosis of several health conditions. The specially designed platform has been programmed to detect the concentration of these proteins to assist in diagnosis and monitoring disease progression.
