Non-medical teachers protest at Jantar Mantar against NMC policies
Alleging that the policies implemented by the National Medical Commission (NMC) are discriminatory in nature, the National M.Sc Medical Teachers' Association (NMMTA) arranged a protest at Jantar Mantar on Monday i.e. August 21, 2023.
Around 350 teachers from across the country gathered in the capital to protest against the "blatant discriminatory actions of the UG Board within the National Medical Commission (NMC)."
The association has alleged that instead of accommodating and involving medical MSc/Ph.D. educators, the Apex medical commission is "unfairly targeting" them.

New COVID variant called FL 1.5.1 or 'Fornax' detected
Over the past few weeks, health experts are tracking three variants of COVID 19. The FL 1.5.1 variant, colloquially named "Fornax" by Gregory, has taken a significant foothold, constituting approximately 13.3% of infections in the United States, according to estimates from the CDC. In just a week's time, FL 1.5.1 has nearly doubled its prevalence, having previously accounted for around 7.1% of circulating variants.
Medical associations do not fall under jurisdictions of NMC, says IMA, writes to Health Minister demanding exemption from new ethics regulations
Noting that an association registered under the Societies Act does not fall under the purview of the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has now written to the Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya demanding an exemption from the National Medical Commission Registered Medical Practitioner (Professional Conduct) Regulations, 2023.
In the same letter, putting forward the demands of the medical fraternity, the association also asked the Union Health Minister to withdraw the mandatory nature of the regulations on the prescription of generic drugs and make digitalization desirable yet optional.

Kidney trading linked deceptive website exploits identity of gynecologist, FIR lodged
The identity of a Bengaluru-based gynaecologist was misused by cybercriminals to construct a fake website dedicated to kidney trade. This deceptive platform is purportedly misleading unsuspecting individuals by falsely promising monetary compensation in exchange for the sale of crucial organs.
On August 11, a First Information Report (FIR) was officially filed at the North East CEN police station in connection with the incident.
