Tomato Flu not related to SARS-CoV-2, monkeypox, dengue, chikungunya, Centre sent advisory to states
With the rising cases of Tomato flu in the country, the Centre has sent an advisory to states on Tomato Flu, also known as tomato fever.
According to an advisory, the infection, which appears to be a type of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD), primarily affects children under the age of 10, though it can also affect adults.
Medical colleges cannot admit beyond sanctioned limit or MBBS admission deadline: Madras HC
In a recent judgment, the Madras High Court bench has held that the MBBS admissions need to be commensurate with the annual intake capacity of the concerned medical college.
Reiterating the earlier orders of the Supreme Court directing to strictly follow the schedule for admission, the Madras HC bench comprising of Justice Abdul Quddhose recently dismissed a plea by MBBS aspirants who sought admission under the wards of defence personnel quota and noted, "...it is clear that neither intake of students can be allowed beyond the sanctioned limit nor time schedule for completion of the admissions for the medical colleges can be extended...The regulations streamlining the admission of students in medical college are made to maintain higher standards in medical education."

Drug safety alert: IPC flags adverse reactions linked to cephalosporin antibiotic cefoperazone
The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), through its recently issued drug safety alert for the month of August, has revealed that a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic Cefoperazone is linked with Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) named Coagulopathy, a condition in which the blood's ability to coagulate (form clots) is impaired..
This came after preliminary analysis of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) from the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) database.

GMC Keonjhar gets NMC letter of intent for 100 MBBS seats
Another 100 MBBS seats are going to be added to the seat matrix of Odisha since the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued the Letter of Intent (LOI) to the new Government Medical College in Keonjhar district for commencing admissions in 100 MBBS seats from the 2022-2023 academic session.
Issuing the LOI, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the Commission has directed the State Government for submit an undertaking with an assurance to provide all the facilities as per the NMC norms.
