Scientists create drug that destroys deadly brain tumors
Researchers at the University of Gothenburg, working with French colleagues, have successfully developed a method able to kill the aggressive brain tumor glioblastoma. By blocking certain functions in the cell with a docked molecule, the researchers caused the cancer to die of stress. The outcomes of the experiments were deemed highly encouraging, as the treated mice remained cured with no signs of recurrence even after a period of over six months. Furthermore, this drug demonstrates its efficacy when used in conjunction with chemotherapy, as compared to its peers who received chemotherapy alone and experienced rapid tumor regrowth and spreading. Glioblastomas, which are often regarded as incurable, require improved treatment options urgently. The international team of researchers believes that this drug could be integrated into clinical practice within a span of five years. Additionally, this groundbreaking discovery has the potential to impact the treatment of other aggressive forms of cancer
