Certify all Weighing machines used by doctors: New Maharashtra Dept order leaves doctors dumbfounded
Medical practitioners in Maharashtra have been left in a state of utter confusion with the recent letter written by the Legal Metrology Department to the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Latur branch.
In the letter, the Department was seen asking the IMA Latur branch to ensure that all the weighing machines used by the doctors need to be certified by vendors, who are certified for this purpose.

Doctors at Primus Super Speciality Hospital perform bilateral knee replacement surgery on woman weighing 142 kg
Doctors here have restored the mobility of an elderly woman weighing 142 kg, after a successful total knee replacement surgery on both knees.
“This is the first time in India that any patient weighing 142 kg has undergone total knee replacement surgery,” said doctors at Primus Super Speciality Hospital, in a statement.

Taking action against a fake medical college at Olapalayam offering medical courses without recognition, the Health officials in Tirupur have sealed the institute.
Based in Kangayam block in Tirupur district, Dr. Selvanayagi Medical Institute of Electropathy and Hospital was allegedly offering three illegal courses including Bachelor in Electropathy Medicine and Surgery, Doctor of Medicine in Electro Homeopathy and Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.

Dr Naresh Panda, Professor and Head of Otolaryngology (ENT) department, has been appointed as the Dean (academics) of the premier health institution, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI Chandigarh).

The Gujarat High Court has sought to know the stand of the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Gujarat Medical Council (GMC) regarding the rules mandating one-year internship in India for foreign medical graduates to get permanent registration.
While considering a plea filed by a batch of medical graduates from the Phillippines, who have challenged the NMC rule in this regard, the HC bench of Justice Vaibhavi Nanavati has issued a notice to the NMC and GMC.
