Cervical cancer detection tests, which typically cost lakhs and take longer to deliver results, will now become more affordable and faster with a new low-cost nanotechnology-based visual diagnostic kit developed by doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. The kit is inexpensive, easily accessible, and offers results within just two hours.
Priced at under Rs 100, the test has already been tried on 400 patients and has demonstrated 100 per cent accuracy. The kit, based on nanotechnology, instantly identifies cervical cancer caused by high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV).

Karnataka Cracks Down on Quacks, Warns of Legal Actions
A circular issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department, along with the Department of Ayush, outlines stringent legal measures to curb unlicensed medical practices and protect citizens from the risks associated with quackery.
According to the circular, only those registered with recognised medical councils — including allopathic, ayurvedic, and homeopathic systems — are legally permitted to practice medicine in Karnataka. The circular explicitly states that anyone found impersonating a doctor without valid registration will face a fine of up to ₹5 lakh and imprisonment of up to three years for repeated offences.

Hospital Construction Irregularities: ED Raids AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj
Former Delhi Health Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj came under the scanner of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday as his residence was raided in connection with alleged irregularities in the construction of government hospitals in the capital.
The investigation is linked to an FIR registered earlier by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) against Saurabh Bharadwaj and former Health Minister Satyendar Jain, alleging large-scale financial irregularities in Delhi’s public health infrastructure projects.

AIIMS Announces new duty hours for Resident Doctors: 12 Hours a Day, 48 Hours a Week
The resident doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, will get one weekly holiday by rotation, and their duty hours will not normally exceed 12 hours per day.
Issuing an Office Memorandum in this regard on 21.08.2025, the institute discussed the duty/working hours of resident doctors at AIIMS, New Delhi. The OM was issued in continuation of the office memorandum dated 03.10.2017 and 06.10.2020, respectively, on this subject.
