COVID nasal sprays may one day prevent and treat infection

Researchers want to develop drugs that stop SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID getting into the body in the first place, that includes nasal sprays that stop the virus attaching to cells in the nose.  Nasal sprays are used to deliver medications locally in the nasal cavities.

Medical council notice to 2 doctors for advertising their expertise on hoardings

Taking action against unethical advertisement, the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has sought clarification from two senior Thane-based doctors attached to a renowned hospital.

The Council has issued notice to these doctors after taking note of the fact that they were involved in the advertising their expertise on hoardings, adds TOI.

Issuing notice to the doctors, the Council on November 14 said that the doctors 'were involved in unethical advertisements through hoardings'. They have been directed to submit their written explanations regarding this issue within 15 days to the State Medical Council.

ICMR recommends avoiding antibiotics, issues guidelines 

The apex research regulator the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has issued guidelines warning against the use of antibiotics for conditions such as low-grade fever and viral bronchitis while advising doctors to follow a timeline while prescribing them.

The ICMR guidelines stated that antibiotics should be prescribed for a duration of five days for skin and soft tissue infections, five days in case of community-acquired pneumonia, and eight days for hospital-acquired pneumonia.

Absence of informed consent, proper investigations for treating acute pancreatitis patient: Consumer Court directs hospital, doctor to pay Rs 9 lakh compensation

The district consumer disputes redressal commission, Gondia has recently directed Gondia city hospital and its doctor to pay Rs 9 lakh compensation to the family of a patient, who died while undergoing treatment for Acute Pancreatitis.

Such a decision was taken by the District Consumer Court after it noted that the hospital did not obtain any informed consent from the patient and his family members and also did not conduct proper investigations.

Tamil Nadu Medical Council elections: Madras HC issues notice to state, NMC on plea demanding online polls

The Madras High Court has sought the response of State Government and the National Medical Commission (NMC) in a plea alleging corruption in the conduct of Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) Elections.

Filing the plea, a Madurai-based Government doctor S Syed Tahir Hussain has prayed for online polls under the supervision of a retired High Court judge.

Admitting the plea for hearing, the HC bench comprising of Justice R Suresh Kumar recorded the submissions, the Court has issued notice to State and NMC and asked them to file responses in two weeks.
