Postpone NEET PG 2023: Doctors plan to meet Health Minister on Jan 31

Although the application deadline for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) examination 2023 has ended on January 27, the doctors are demanding the postponement of the exam, scheduled for March 5, 2023.

After writing to the authorities and pointing out that around 10,000 NEET PG aspirants were ineligible to appear for the exam, now a delegation of Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) is going to meet the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tomorrow.

No evidence that hospital conducted operation: Consumer Court absolves Punjab hospital for patient's loss Of Sight

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Gurdaspur recently exonerated the Pathankot based Dr. K. D Eye Hospital from charges of medical negligence while providing treatment to a patient who lost sight in his left eye.

Although the patient claimed that he lost his eyesight because of medical negligence on the part of the hospital while conducting foreign particle removal surgery, the Consumer Court noted that the patient could not produce any evidence to prove that the hospital had conducted the operation.

Maharashtra rules for recognizing FMGs not binding in Karnataka: HC

The Kalaburgi bench of Karnataka High Court recently dismissed a plea by a Medical Graduate from China, who questioned the decision of the State Health Department for rejecting her application for the post of Medical Officer.

Challenging the decision of the State of rejecting her application on the grounds that he has graduated from an University in China, the concerned Foreign Medical graduate had pointed out that the State of Maharashtra recognizes medical degrees from Foreign University for appointing medical officers.

Weight loss surgery extends lives, Utah study finds

A new retrospective study with up to 40 years of follow-up shows significant reductions in death rates from all causes and cause-specific conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer in patients who have undergone bariatric surgery compared to non-surgical participants with severe obesity, according to a new study in Obesity, The Obesity Society’s (TOS) flagship journal.

The study also found evidence suggesting increased risk of death from chronic liver disease, in addition to higher death rates from suicide in younger patients who had bariatric surgery compared to non-surgical participants. The study’s authors observe that the findings of increased suicide rates among younger patients who have had bariatric surgery may promote more aggressive, pre-surgical psychological screening and post-surgery follow up.
