Backdoor entry in medical colleges: Supreme Court issues notice to NMC

The matter concerning the backdoor entry in medical colleges shall now be considered by the Supreme Court, which has recently issued notice in the matter to concerned authorities including the erstwhile Medical Council of India (MCI), now National Medical Commission (NMC).

Approaching the Apex Court bench, the petitioner students challenged the Delhi High Court order of last year, where the HC bench had upheld the discharge order issued by the erstwhile MCI cancelling the admission of petitioner students while flagging the issue of backdoor entry.

Health ministry says no to NEET PG 2022 postponement 

Amid the growing demands for postponing the postgraduate medical entrance examination, the Union Health Ministry has reportedly confirmed that NEET-PG 2022 shall be conducted on the schedule date i.e. May 21, 2022.

The confirmation regarding this came from the sources in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) Department, who informed Careers360 that the date for the exam shall not get changed. This was decided in a Ministry meeting held in the presence of the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on April 30.

Charak Shapath issue: Madurai medical college dean reinstated   

The Dean of Madurai Medical College A Rathnavel, shunted out and placed on the wait-list after a controversy over the college students taking the Maharishi Charak Shapath in English, as against the Hippocratic oath, is back in the post.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Ma Subramanian on Wednesday informed the Assembly that the decision to reinstate the Dean was taken following Chief Minister M K Stalin's intervention. "The Chief Minister felt that the Dean's good work during the COVID-19 pandemic should be taken into account and also he has expressed regret over the incident," the Minister said.

Double-masking does not improve protection against Covid: Study

Double masking with improperly fitted masks may "not significantly improve mask efficiency and produces a false sense of security", suggests the study published in Physics of Fluids.

Researchers at Florida State University and Johns Hopkins University argued, "More layers mean a less porous face covering, leading to more flow forced out of the perimeter gaps (sides, top, and bottom) in masks with a less secure fit."
