Hepatitis C infection due to blood transfusion: Court slaps Rs 5 lakh compensation

The consumer court in Mansa recently directed Health Department authorities of Punjab to pay Rs 5 lakh as compensation to a patient, who got infected with Hepatitis C virus due to transfusion of contaminated blood back in 2015.

Holding the Health officials guilty, President of the District Consumer Court of Mansa, RL Mittal observed, "For the wrong doings of the staff of OPs, now the complainant would have to suffer with this lifelong disease which may require heavy medication and expensive treatment. Therefore, the complainant is surely entitled for an adequate compensation."

No NEET PG Counselling: Resident Doctors Suspend Emergency Services, Health Minister Gives Assurance

Escalating the ongoing strike with demands for immediate NEET-PG Counselling, the resident doctors at three Hospitals in Delhi have boycotted all services including emergency services as well.

The call for suspension of emergency services was given by the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) India in a letter directed to the Union Health Minister Shri Mansukh Mandaviya.

Andhra appoints members of Medical Council

The Andhra Pradesh government has recently appointed new members of the State Medical Council for a term of five years.

Noted Vijayawada based psychiatrist Dr Indla Ramasubba Reddy and former pediatrics Professor at Kurnool, Dr G Sudhakar have been appointed as individual members of the state Medical Council for the said term.The government order stating the same was issued by Principal Secretary (Medical, Health and Family Welfare) Anil Kumar Singhal on December 2.

 NPPA fixes ceiling price of 2 formulations

Through a recent notice, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has fixed the ceiling prices for Methylthioninium chloride Injection 10mg/ml and Hydroxocobalamin Injection 1 mg/ml at Rs 21.85 and Rs 9.91, respectively.

Methylene blue is an organic chloride salt having 3,7-bis(dimethylamino)phenothiazin-5-ium as the counterion. It is a commonly used dye that also exhibits antioxidant, antimalarial, antidepressant and cardioprotective properties.

Dr M K Ramesh appointed new Vice-chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences

The President of the Post Graduate Medical Education Board, National Medical Commission Dr M.K. Ramesh has recently been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).
