Holding the treating hospital and doctors including a gynaecologist and a surgeon guilty of medical negligence, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Jalandhar has directed them to pay Rs 5 lakh as compensation to a complainant, whose wife died after delivery due to excessive bleeding.
Taking note of the fact that the doctors had referred the patient to another hospital when the bleeding didn't stop, the Commission noted, "OPs gave wrong treatment to deceased. If position of the wife of the complainant is not a good then why they referred the patient, wife of the complainant to another hospital. The patient died due to negligence of the OPs. OPs failed to exercise their duty with reasonable and proper care and did not take precautions guarding against injury to the patient and breach of duty which was gross negligence caused the death of the patient."

NMC tells students in advisory: Passing of first Professional exam of MBBS necessary to move to 2nd year
The students had earlier filed a petition seeking directions to the NMC and Dr NTR University of Health Sciences to give relaxation to the candidates who were unable to clear the first year exams and also permit them to attend second year classes.

Armed Forces Medical College Pune more than doubles bond fee to Rs 61 lakh FOR MBBS ADMISSIONS 2021.
Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is one of the most coveted medical colleges in the country for pursuing MBBS. The AFMC Pune has released a brochure for admission to the MBBS course for the session 2021.
The brochure, the bulletin consists of eligibility criteria, required qualifications, criteria of marks, and other details about the admissions to MBBS course. A total of 150 candidates (including 05 Govt. sponsored candidates from Friendly Foreign Countries) will be selected in the year 2021, of which 145 (115 boys and 30 girls) will be selected as Medical Cadets for imparting training (including MBBS course) at the Armed Forces Medical College Pune with liability to serve in the Armed Forces Medical Services as Medical Officers. The candidates selected in addition to becoming doctors will also be commissioned as officers of the Indian Armed Forces, wherein they have to be both physically and psychologically robust to be able to undergo the rigors of life in the Armed Forces. The selected candidates need to have leadership qualities, effective communication skills and exacting physical standards, as the same are prime requisites for serving officers of the Armed Forces.

Delhi High Court restrains generic pharmaceutical companies from making Novartis patented drug
In a major relief to Novartis, the Delhi High Court has restrained various generic pharmaceutical companies from manufacturing or selling Valsartan and Sacubitril tablets, a combination to treat cardiovascular diseases, as it may amount to infringement of patent of pharma major Novartis AG.
The injunction order has been passed against Natco Pharma, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Eris Lifesciences and Windlas Biotech, generic pharma firms making or selling Valsartan and Sacubitril.
