Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, a Kerala-based hepatologist known as 'The Liver Doc,' recently shared a humbling personal experience on social media. Despite his extensive medical training, he struggled to diagnose a family member's illness, which included symptoms such as low-grade fever, chills, fatigue, arthritis, and a rash. Dr. Philips tested for various conditions, including viral hepatitis, COVID-19, influenza, dengue, and Epstein-Barr Virus, but all results were negative.
In a surprising turn of events, his elderly maid provided the crucial insight. She recognized the rash and identified it as 'Anjaampani' in the local language, which translates to the fifth disease or erythema infectiosum. Following her suggestion, Dr. Philips tested for Parvovirus B19, which came back positive.
