A mysterious illness has gripped the village of Devagondanahalli in Karnataka's Chikkamagaluru district, causing widespread suffering among residents. Over the past one and a half months, villagers have experienced swollen legs, severe body aches, fever, and joint pain, rendering many bedridden and unable to perform daily tasks. Despite frequent visits to government and private hospitals, no conclusive diagnosis or effective treatment has been found, and symptoms persist despite rest.

The condition, which exhibits similarities to chikungunya, has not yet been confirmed. Blood tests have indicated viral fever, but this has provided little relief or improvement in health. The illness has affected people of all age groups, with some losing their appetite and experiencing difficulty eating due to aching fingers.

Approximately 400 families reside in the village, and nearly every family has reported at least one member suffering from these symptoms. The villagers have been seeking treatment in nearby towns, as no doctors have visited the village for an inspection.

Taluk Medical Officer Dr. Seema mentioned that regular larvae surveys are being conducted, and she plans to visit the village soon for further assessment.
