New COVID variant "Eris" found in Maharashtra

The new COVID variant EG.5.1 or Eris has been a reason for slight rise in the coronavirus caseload in Maharashtra. A similar variant has also been leading to an increase in covid cases in the UK. Coronavirus cases have increased from 70 at the end of July to 115 on August 6, as per state health department data, reports TOI.
