Violence against medical professionals continues to escalate by showing no sign of slowing down as a recent incident took place at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMC) where a drunk patient and his relatives allegedly verbally abused, assaulted and threatened junior doctors and nurses in the emergency department over delay in treatment.

Based on the complaint of a senior resident doctor at the hospital's emergency department, the Beniapukur police arrested two persons under relevant sections of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). They were produced before a Sealdah court and remanded in cop custody till Oct 5.
