West Bengal nursing home fined Rs 10 lakh in maternal death case

The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) has directed Megacity Nursing Home in North 24 Parganas Barasat, to pay a compensation of Rs 10 Lakh, stating that there is a provision of the same amount of penalty in case medical negligence led to death.

The case goes back 6 years to when a 25-year-old woman who passed away after delivery. The patient, who had been under the doctor’s care since the initial stage of her pregnancy, was admitted to the facility in October 2019 and delivered her baby in the morning.
