Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases in nearly all countries. It has been associated with sexual dysfunction, both in males and females. It is an established risk factor for sexual dysfunction in men, wherein a threefold increase in the risk of erectile dysfunction was documented in diabetic men, as compared to nondiabetics. However, the prevalence of sexual dysfunctions in people with diabetes is still debated and understudied in women. A study in Diabetic Medicine examines the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in men and women with type 1 or type 2 diabetes (T1D or T2D) and the associations with clinical and psychological variables.
