Intervention Radiology is a branch that is used to diagnose a disease in its early stages so that treatment can be started well in time. A few common procedures involved in Interventional radiology include Angiography, Angioplasty, Embolization, Needle biopsy, Catheters insertions, etc. These are usually less painful, less risky, and more affordable and can even eliminate the needs for hospitalization or surgery in many cases.

The basic difference between a radiologist and an Intervention Radiologist is that while the former often finds problems early by interpreting results of medical imaging, the latter use minimally invasive and image-guided procedures for the diagnosis and even treatment of the disease.

In this video, Dr Anuj Aggarwal, Senior Radiologist from Safdarjung Hospital talks about Interventional Radiology scope and basic procedures.
