Rare neck tumor successfully removed at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital
60 years old male patient from Kashmir, presented in ENT & Head and Neck Oncology Department, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital with breathing difficulty, swallowing problems & voice change. Investigations were done and found that there was a very rare tumor of size of approximately 6cm in the lower part of the neck and upper chest which was compressing the trachea (windpipe) and food pipe significantly and causing breathing & swallowing difficulties.
According to Dr. Sangeet Kr. Agarwal, Consultant (Head & Neck Oncosurgery), ENT Department, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, "The tumor was found to be paraganglioma of lower neck going into the upper chest. The site of the tumor was very rare & the challenge in surgery was to save major blood vessels going into the brain, food pipe, and trachea (windpipe). The tumor was adherent to all vital structures including the trachea, food pipe, vertebra, major blood vessels of the neck & and upper chest. It was removed safely and the patient is now relieved and discharged without any complication".
