The trainee in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology should acquire broad knowledge in all aspects of arrhythmology, including but not limited to bradyarrhythmia, tachyarrhythmias, syncope, non-invasive and invasive diagnostic electrophysiology, and interventional electrophysiology including catheter ablation and device implantation.

The course is a full-time course pursued at accredited institutes/hospitals nationwide, including Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon, Haryana, Madras Medical Mission Hospital, Chennai, and more.

Candidates can get admission to 2 years FNB course after successfully qualifying for the FET (Fellowship Entrance Test) examination, which NBEMS conducts. FET is shown annually as per the prescribed schedule—the merit-based counseling for admissions to the FNB Programme after the conduct of FET is administered by NBEMS.

The fee for pursuing FNB Cardiac Electrophysiology varies from accredited institute/hospital to hospital and is around Rs.1,25,000 per year.

After completing their respective course, doctors can join the job market. Candidates can take decent jobs as research fellows, Senior residents, Consultants, etc., with an approximate salary range of Rs. 25 lakhs to Rs. 35 lakhs per year which vary according to experience.

The Nomenclature of the FNB qualification awarded by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences is “Fellow of National Board.” The FNB qualifications are recognized in the Gazette notification dated 10th August 2016.

What is FNB in Cardiac Electrophysiology?

FNB in Cardiac Electrophysiology is a two-year post-doctoral fellowship program that candidates can pursue after completing a postgraduate degree.

It deals with the diagnosis, therapeutics, and surgical methods to treat heart rhythm disorders.

The trainee should have sufficient knowledge of basic electrophysiology to understand current theories of the mechanisms of cardiac dysrhythmias and the rationale for pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapy.

The training program would focus on acquiring knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential to education and delivering high-quality patient care.

The training can be theoretical, clinical, and practical in all aspects of the delivery of rehabilitative care, including the methodology of research and teaching.

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) has released a curriculum for FNB Cardiac Electrophysiology.
