Narayana Health, C-CAMP and Axilor Ventures Join Hands to Promote Innovations in Healthcare; Launch "Healiate 2016" - a Directed Innovation Challenge Focused on Diabetes

Bangalore:Healthcare in India requires a significant fix. Lack of improvement in healthcare outcomes can rob the country of it. The healthcare system is in need of innovations that will solve the problems of affordable access, achieve break-through improvements, harness the potential of prevention or improve efficiency.

While there is tremendous need for innovation in healthcare, it is not attracting as many entrepreneurs or start-ups as other sectors. Narayana Health, C-CAMP (The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms) and Axilor Ventures have joined hands to create a ''virtual platform’ to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in healthcare. The platform will enable entrepreneurs and start-ups to seek technical and business advice, access research and clinical resources, raise funding and be part of a growing community of healthcare entrepreneurs.

As their first initiative, the platform launched today, Healiate, a directed innovation challenge. The challenge aims at increasing the number of experiments focused on a specific problem and directs attention to innovation possibilities through a curated set of insights.

Healiate 2016 is focused on finding innovative solutions for diabetes, a condition that affects more than 67 million Indians. The challenge is open to entrepreneurs, researchers, medical professionals, inventors and start-ups. The five winners will be eligible for a cash prize of INR 2 lacs. They will also get direct admission into Axilor's Accelerator program or C-Camp’s Incubator Program.   The successful start-ups will have access to a rich ecosystem of partners and advisors. C-Camp and Narayana Health will provide the technical know-how, access to research and clinical facilities. The startups are also eligible to potential funding up to INR 75 lacs (through a combination of grant and seed capital). The winners will be announced in the annual symposium in the last week of February 2016.
