NEET MDS 2018 explained with Dr Abhijat Sheth, President, NBE

With many recent changes being announced with respect to NEET PG and NEET MDS exam for the coming term, questions are arising in the minds of a student regarding the exam. Recently, National Board of Examinations announced that Aadhar would be mandatory for the exam.

Medical Dialogues team interviewed Dr Abhijath Sheth, President National Board of Examinations, who has answered the following questions on NEET MDS 2018. Read Further:-


Q1. Who shall conduct the NEET-MDS 2018?


NBE shall be conducting NEET-MDS 2018.  NBE is in process of finalizing the agency that will provide technical platform for conducting NEET-MDS.


Q2. How many test centres have been engaged for NEET-MDS?


NEET- MDS shall be conducted in more than 30 cities across the country.


Q3. What is the scheme of NEET-MDS?


NEET-MDS shall be conducted on a computer-based platform. The total number of question in the exam will be 240.  The blueprint for the question paper shall be same as that for NEET-MDS 2017. The exam will be conducted on a single day in single session.  There will not be any equating or scaling.


Q4. What is the scope of NEET- MDS?


NEET- MDS 2018 shall be the single eligibility cum entrance examination namely ‘National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for admission to Postgraduate Dental Courses’ for the academic session 2018 which will include the following:




  1. All India 50% quota seats for MDS courses (all states except Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Telangana)

  2. State quota seats for MDS courses for all States/Union territories of India (including the states of Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Telangana)

  3. MDS courses at all Private Dental Colleges, Institutions & Universities all across the country

  4. MDS courses at Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions.

Q6. What are the important dates for NEET- MDS?




  • Date of Examination NEET 2018- 7th January, 2018

  • Date of Result announcement for NEET 2018- by 31st January, 2018


For further important dates, please refer to the Information Bulletin which shall be published shortly after due approval from the Competent Authority. Candidates are informed about exact dates through website www.nbe.edu.in .


 Q7.What is the subject wise distribution of questions for NEET MDS 2018?


The subject wise distribution of questions for NEET-MDS is as per the blue print given in the Information Bulletin for NEET-MDS 2017.


Q8. What is the candidate support for NEET- MDS?


There shall be dedicated contact centre to resolve the queries of the candidates.  E-mail support shall also be provided to the candidates.


Q9. Which all institutions are exempted from National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test- MDS?


The following institute is exempted from NEET-MDS:




  1. AIIMS, New Delhi


Q10. What about Counseling for BDS Diploma seats?


NBE has no role in counselling and allotment of seats.  However, the counselling shall be conducted as per MDS Course Regulations 2017 which can be seen at www.dciindia.org


Q11. Whether there will be any negative marking?


The scheme of the award of marks is as follows:

Q12. What’s your advice for the Aspiring Candidates?


My advice to the aspiring candidates is to prepare for NEET-MDS 2018 examination with the confidence and focus on reading their textbooks. The NBE will strengthen examination process to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of NEET-MDS 2018 examination.
