New Delhi: Doctors at Acharya Bhikshu Hospital on strike following assault

New Delhi: Resident doctors working in West Delhi's Acharya Bhikshu Government Hospital have been on strike since past two days following the assault of three resident doctors and the nursing orderly by a mob of people.

The incident goes back to the night of 6th April, 2016 when around 10.30 p.m, an MLC case was brought to the emergency of the hospital by a policeman. The patient had suffered from minor injuries and was sent for dressing by the Duty doctor after examination. Since there was a lot of patients in line at the hospital, the process of dressing for the patient was taking some time. Dr Rajiv Ranjan, RDA President at ABGH Hospital told Medical Dialogues, " Ironically, the policeman who had brought the patient started instigating the attendants to make noise to get work done early. The attendants following his cue started shouting at the hospital staff present and began beating up the Nursing orderly. When the resident doctors tried to intervene, they also got beaten up in the process. The policeman was silently watching the entire process, and when a lot of hospital staff gathered at the hospital to prevent the fight, he took and patients and the attendants away."

It is reported that the hospital staff tried to contact the seniors including CCMO as well as the MS but no one came to their rescue at night. Following this, the frustrated resident doctors went on a flash strike and have been on a mass bunk since then. Out of the 110 doctors present at the hospital, the strength of 75 residents doctors have been boycotting work, while the hospital is currently being manned by remaining 35 doctors which include MOs,GDMO and other duty officers.
