New Delhi : Dr Atul Kumar (AIIMS) Conferred with Dr BC Roy Award

New Delhi: Prof (Dr) Atul Kumar, Chief and Professor of Ophthalmology at Dr RP Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi has been conferred with the prestigious Dr BC Roy Award by the Medical Council of India in the category of Eminent Medical Teacher .

A popular ophthalmologist and a renowned faculty, Dr Atul Kumar recounts his journey starting with coming from a non-medico family and struggling against all odds to get a meritorious seat at MAMC, Delhi. Then another "

" took him to AIIMS,and MD at RP Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences , where he later joined as an Assistant Professor in the year 1987. Since then he has dedicated his career to the field of Medical Education.

Having contributed  more than 236 indexed and non-indexed publications and chapters in over 17 books, he is also authored a book on "Lasers in Ophthalmology" & Co-edited book on "Disorders of Retina & Vitreous"

When asked on his feeling about being the recipient of this award, the professor smiled and said " On top-of-the world". He indeed had an important message to give to his juniors and students, " Be sincere , work hard and work towards a goal. Also keep in mind that this noble profession involves also doing social work and care for the non-affording class ,so that their health needs are looked after. "


This is not the first prestigious award that the professor has recieved. Apart from numerous accolades, In the year 2007, Dr Atul Kumar was conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri award from the President of India, for his for contribution to healthcare in the field of Vitreo-Retinal Diseases and Surgery
