New Delhi: Adding to the never-ending list of acts of violence against doctors, a fresh incidence has now been reported from LNJP Hospital (Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital) in New Delhi, with a mob of 50-60 people attacking the Gynae Casualty residents as well as the nursing staff present there, late last night.

The incident goes back to last night around 1.30-2.00 am, where a 7 months pregnant lady with respiratory distress was brought to the casualty of LNJP by around 15-20 people. From there, she was immediately shifted to the Gynae Casualty. Noticing that the patient was gasping, the resident doctors at the casualty began performing emergency CPR on her, and during the CPR only the agitated attendants started shouting and  began fighting with the doctors and staff present there. Somehow, the doctors continued with the CPR, but unfortunately could not save the patient. By this time, the number of attendants had gone up to become a mob of 50-60 patients, and hearing that the patients could not be salvaged, the mob attacked all the duty officers present there, including the junior and senior residents, nursing staff as well as the orderlies present there. The entire department staff locked themselves in a room, with the exception of one nursing orderly who had been brutally beaten up by the mob.

As per sources, the police came to the incident around 3.00 am, after the angry mob had gone away, and asked the doctors to resume work. However, much to the misfortune of the gynae department at LNJP, another mob of people came around 5 am, began breaking down the department equipments and attacking the doctors again. Dr Pankaj Solanki informed, an SR has been seriously injured after someone broke a saline bottle on his head. With this incident, the gynae department again ran for their lives, finally putting a lock to the department in fear and frustration.

It is reported, that post this incident, the entire resident doctors of the hospital have declared a indefinite strike, till the police catches the culprits as well as till more security is provided to the busy hospital. The RDA is currently having a meeting with the MS, LNJP in this regard.

Speaking to Medical Dialogues, Dr Pankaj Solanki, President FORDA said," It despicable that even departments such a gynaecology are not free from acts of violence. It is as if, doctors are being taken as punching bags for every misfortune that occurs in government hospitals. Moreover, its shameful, that with the coming republic day celebrations, the entire area around LNJP hospital has been turned into a fortress with enormous police protection, but when doctors need protection, all security is undermined."
