New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated two mohalla clinics for homeless people.

The clinics have come up at Dandi Park, near Kashmere Gate ISBT, in north Delhi and Sarai Kale Khan in south Delhi.

"It is the first time that a government is trying to give a respectful life to the poor. Earlier governments thought of poor only when they needed votes," Kejriwal said.

He added that the government wanted to complete 1,000 mohalla clinics by end of this year but the file has not been cleared by the Lt Governor.

"As soon as the file is cleared, we will set up 1,000 mohalla clinics across Delhi in three to four months," Kejriwal added.

The AAP leader said that even people from rich families were going to mohalla clinics for treatment.

A government statement said that the dedicated mohalla clinic at Dandi Park will provide free medicines and free medical check-ups to the five shelters for the homeless with a total capacity of 750 people.

The shelters are being run by Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).

The clinic at Sarai Kale Khan will cater to five shelters having capacity of 600 people, the statement said.

"In addition, a 50-bed recovery shelter was also inaugurated at Sarai Kale Khan for those who are discharged from the hospital and are in dire need of care for recovery after illness, but have nowhere to go," it added.
