Amid the ongoing tussle between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor, here's a piece of good news for Capital's residents. Delhi government is all set to offer upgraded facilities at the Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital in West Delhi and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital in East Delhi. These two hospitals have been functioning without the required equipment and necessary staff. However, the government has now decided to upgrade these two hospitals and for that public-private partnership will be the way forward.
"We are working on the hospitals. Both the hospitals will start functioning in the next three months. Residents of Delhi will get all the updated facilities in these two hospitals. We had prepared a plan and decided to restart the facilities in six months," Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain told Mail Today.
According to sources, the government is planning to enter into a public-private partnership to ensure proper functioning of these hospitals. The name of Narayana Hrudyalaya is doing the rounds for the project.
"We are in touch with Narayana Hrudyalaya. We want these two hospitals to offer world-class services to the patients. We have some other options too," a Delhi government official told MAIL TODAY.
Narayana Health, formerly known as Narayana Hrudyalaya, is a multi-specialty hospital chain in India, headquartered in Bengaluru. The hospital chain has 6,498 beds spread across 32 hospitals in 20 locations.
Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital in West Delhi and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital in East Delhi were built with much hope. But over the years they were not able to meet the requirements of the patients. The 300-bed Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital was built at a cost of Rs 70 crore on a nine-acre land. It was inaugurated in 2008. The 650-bed Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital started functioning in 2003.
