New Rule in Haryana: Women to submit their photographs to get an ultrasound

Gurugram: In an effort to curb the increasing trend of sex selective abortions in the state, the General Hospital in Civil Lines is reported to have made it mandatory for all pregnant women to submit their passport size photos along with their husband's identity proof while getting an ultrasound if they not submitted their own identity proofs such as Adhaar card, Voter Id card, PAN card or etc.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has taken this decision as a part of the initiative to check misuse of the ultrasound test by pregnant women and have proper records to control pre-natal sex determination.  It is reported that the Ministry came into the action after coming across a  number of cases where pregnant women had submitted their fake names/documents at the time of tests and would then become untraceable. While it was required that the patient should submit her own identity proofs, many however, would submit their husbands' identity proofs at the hospital.

Keeping these issues in mind, the government has now spelt it out that from now on the women/either will either have to give their own proofs or their photos along with her partner's identity proof. The man's identity proof and the woman's photograph will be maintained in the hospital records as husband and wife, reports TOI
