Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) has scheduled the MBBS Interns Orientation Program for the January 2023 batch from 1.2.2023 till 3.2.2023.

As per the notice, the program will be held at the Department of Medical Education, 4th Floor, JIPMER Academic Centre. Registration for the Program will start sharp at 8.30 am on 1.2.2023. Full-time attendance and punctuality are mandatory. It will be treated as absent if any intern arrives late or fails to attend on program days.

JIPMER has requested all the Heads of departments to circulate this among the interns and permit them to attend the program.

The final year theory MBBS exam started on 4th January 2022 and continued till 13th January 2023. The exams were conducted between 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. The practical exams are scheduled until 23rd January 2023, starting today (16th January 2023). The subjects included in the theory exams were Medicine I, Medicine II, Pediatrics, and Obst. & Gynae I, Obst. & Gynae II, Surgery I, and Surgery II. Whereas practical exams include Medicine, Obst. & Gynae, Surgery, and Pediatrics.


MBBS admission across the country is based on the NEET UG entrance exam, which has been conducted by y NTA since 2019 for admission to undergraduate medical education, with the approval of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (vide O.M. no. V.11025/14/216-MEP dated 6th December 2017) and MHRD (vide Order No 35-5/2017-TS.I dated 24th September 2018).

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research is a medical school in Pondicherry. It is an institute of national importance (INI) and a tertiary care referral hospital. It is under the direct administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Indian Government, with autonomy to run its internal administration. The courses include undergraduate, postgraduate, super specialty, fellowships, PhD programs, post-basic diplomas, and certified courses.

JIPMER originated in 1823 as the Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry, established by the French Government. It was renamed Dhanvantari Medical College in 1956 at the time of the de facto transfer of Pondicherry to the Government of India. It was established on its current campus in 1964 and is spread over 1922 acres.
