3,862 PG medical, SS seats in Gujarat for 2026-27, 398 in MD Medicine, Check NMC seat matrix details
Ahmedabad: Gujarat has a total of 3,862 seats in MD, MS, Diploma, DM, and MCh courses across medical colleges for the academic year 2026-27, according to the latest medical seat matrix released by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The seats are available across various postgraduate medical specialities and super-speciality courses.
Medical Dialogues reported that the NMC, on September 29, released a seat matrix showing a total of 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM, and MCh medical seats for the academic year 2026-27. However, the NMC has clarified that the latest seat matrix does not include the seats in respect of applications received for an increase in intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the Academic Year 2026–27.
In a detailed course-wise distribution of the 3,862 postgraduate medical seats in Gujarat, M.D. General Medicine has the highest number of seats at 398, followed by M.D. Anaesthesiology with 384 seats. Gujarat has 352 M.S. General Surgery seats, 288 M.D. Pathology seats, 286 M.S. Obstetrics and Gynaecology seats, 226 M.D. Paediatrics seats, and 226 M.S. Orthopaedics seats.
Among the DM courses, D.M. Cardiology has 29 seats, while D.M. Cardiac Anaesthesia has 20 seats. D.M. Onco-Pathology has 12 seats, D.M. Medical Oncology has 10 seats, D.M. Nephrology has nine seats, and D.M. Neurology has six seats. D.M. Neonatology and D.M. Paediatric Nephrology have three seats each, while D.M. Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology and D.M. Critical Care Medicine have two seats each. D.M. Medical Gastroenterology has one seat.
Among the diploma courses, Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (D.G.O.) has 12 seats, while Diploma in Paediatrics (D.C.H.) has six seats and Diploma in Radiodiagnosis (D.M.R.D.) has five seats. Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy (D.D.V.L.) has five seats, Diploma in Anaesthesiology (D.A.) has four seats and Diploma in Clinical Pathology (D.C.P.) has three seats. Diploma in Psychiatry (D.P.M.) has two seats, while Diploma in Community Medicine (D.C.M.)/Public Health (D.P.H.), Diploma in Ophthalmology (D.O.), Diploma in Orthopaedics (D.Orth.), Diploma in Public Health (D.P.H.) and Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (D.T.C.D.) have one seat each.
Among the MCh courses, M.Ch. Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery has 20 seats, followed by M.Ch. Urology with 14 seats. M.Ch. Neurosurgery and M.Ch. Surgical Oncology have 12 seats each, while M.Ch. Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has 10 seats. M.Ch. Gynaecological Oncology and M.Ch. Paediatric Surgery has six seats, while M.Ch. Surgical Gastroenterology has one seat.
Among the MD courses, M.D. General Medicine has 398 seats and M.D. Anaesthesiology has 384 seats. M.D. Community Medicine/Social & Preventive Medicine has 141 seats, while M.D. Microbiology has 150 seats, and M.D. Pathology has 288 seats. M.D. Pharmacology has 120 seats, M.D. Radio-Diagnosis/Radiology has 186 seats, and M.D. Respiratory Medicine/Tuberculosis & Respiratory Diseases has 91 seats.
The state has 90 seats in M.D. Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy/Dermatology, 86 in M.D. Physiology, 80 in M.D. Psychiatry, 71 in M.D. Anatomy, and 60 in M.D. Biochemistry. M.D. Forensic Medicine and Toxicology/Forensic Medicine has 54 seats, while M.D. Emergency Medicine has 43 seats. M.D. Immuno Haematology and Blood Transfusion has 20 seats; M.D. Radiation Oncology/Radiotherapy has 19 seats; M.D. Palliative Medicine has three seats, and M.D. Paediatrics has 226 seats.
Among the MS courses, M.S. General Surgery has 352 seats, while M.S. Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 286 seats. M.S. Ophthalmology has 150 seats, M.S. Orthopaedics has 226 seats, and M.S. Otorhinolaryngology/ENT has 118 seats.
