5 Years of Service, Rs 20 Lakh Bond penalty for MBBS Admissions in Tripura

Agartala: MBBS students taking admission to the government medical institutes in Tripura under the State Quota seats have to execute a Service Bond at the time of admission assuring to serve the State for five years after completion of the course or pay a penalty of Rs 20 lakh.

These conditions are applicable from the academic session of 2020 and as per the Government notification dated 6th September 2016 (attached with the Information Bulletin) also, the Government had ordered five years of service and a Rs 20 lakh bond penalty for UG students. However, before that, the bond penalty amount was Rs 5 lakh for undergraduate medical courses.

After the 2016 order, another order was issued on 13.12.2019 clarifying the bond conditions applicable from the academic session of 2020. These conditions are still applicable and have been reiterated in the Information Bulletin recently released by the State.

UG Graduate (UG): UG Service Bond:

The bond conditions for the UG medical courses are as follows: 

  • All Candidates of Under Graduate Courses selected for State Quota seat ( Domicile/ Eligibility for State Quota/Sponsored) in Institutions of this State or Outside Tripura shall have to execute a Service Bond in favour of the State Govt. stating that he/she shall serve under Govt. of Tripura for a period of 05 (five) years immediately after successful completion of course failing which he/she will have to pay and amount of Rs. 20.00 lakhs to the Govt. of Tripura.
  • Candidates who would be selected for admission in Tripura Medical College and Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital (Society run Medical College) in MBBS Course shall not have to execute the Service Bond.

However, the State also clarified that "The Service Bond obligation will not apply on a candidate if the appointment is not made by the Govt. within 06(six) months from the date communication to the Government of his/her successful completion of the course & eligibility for service and the clause is applicable in all the above UG & PG Service Bond Clauses."

Seat-Leaving Bond for UG Medical Courses: 

  • As per the UG Discontinuation Bond conditions, a candidate has to pay Rs 20 lakh to the Government of Tripura or the concerned institute if he/she discontinues the course before completion of his/her MBBS/UG Course.

The seat-leaving bond for UG medical students was Rs 20 lakh before 2020 as well. In this regard, the State Health Department's notification dated 06.09.2016 stated, "All Under Graduate and Post Graduate Students (domicile, sponsored and Central Government nominee) should execute a Bond stating that he/she will pay an amount of Rs. 20,00,000.00(Rupees twenty lacs) if he/she discontinues the course before completion."
