AP Health Minister seeks Central Govt financial support for 17 new Medical Colleges

Vijayawada: The State Government of Andhra Pradesh is making all the efforts to open new medical colleges in the State.

In this regard, the Minister for Health, Medical , Family Welfare and Medical Education Vidadala Rajani recently urged the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya for providing financial assistance to the State for setting up 17 new medical colleges in the State.

In response, the Union Health Minister has assured about the grant of fund for the new proposed medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that as per the information provided by the MoS Health Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, Andhra Pradesh has a total number of 31 medical colleges with an intake capacity for 5210 MBBS seats. Among these 2410 MBBS seats are in 13 Government medical colleges and another 2800 MBBS seats are in the 18 private medical colleges.

Now, the State is gearing up for opening 17 new medical colleges in the State. As per the latest media report by the New Indian Express, recently after meeting the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya at the Central Medical and Health Department in New Delhi, the State Minister Rajani discussed several issues and urged for financial assistance from the Central Government for constituting 17 new medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh.

In the meeting, the Principal Secretary (Health, Medical and Family Welfare ) MT Krishna Babu and others were also present. After discussing the issues, the State Minister also submitted the requisitions to the Union Government and further explained about the developments in the medical sector in Andhra Pradesh. 

The Minister also explained the concept of Family Physician and YSR Health Clinics and pointed out that they are completely changing the appearance of government hospitals in the State with funds worth more than 16 thousand crore rupees.

Responding positively to the request of the State Minister, Union Health Minister has assured that the funds would be granted for setting up the new medical colleges in the State.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the State government was setting up 16 new medical colleges at a total cost of Rs 7,880 crore and has initiated measures to fill more than 40,000 posts in government hospitals. These new medical colleges will come up at Paderu, Vizianagaram, Anakapalli, Rajahmundry, Palakollu, Amalapuram, Eluru, Machilipatnam, Bapatla, Markapuram, Piduguralla, Madanapalli, Pulivendula, Penukonda, Adoni and Nandyal.
