Awaiting for Internship for 6 Months, Haryana FMGs Urge NMC to Intervene
Panchkula: Highlighting the plights of foreign medical graduates (FMGs) in Haryana, who have been waiting for the allocation of internship seats, an association representing the FMGs has urged the National Medical Commission (NMC) to intervene and address the issue at the earliest.
All FMGs Association (AFA), which represents medical graduates from abroad across the country, has pointed out the inadequate condition of certain State Medical Councils and opined that as the Apex Medical Education Regulatory Body in India, NMC should take action and resolve these matters.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the association pointed out that even after passing the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE), medical graduates from abroad in some States have to deal with hardships to get enrolled in the Internship programme.
The association also shared a video in which, FMGs could be seen waiting outside the Haryana Medical Council demanding enrolment to the internship programme. Sharing the video, the AFA mentioned in an X post, "So, even after passing FMGE, this is what FMGs have to deal with to get legit internship spots in some states. Sitting outside the Haryana Medical Council in this cold trying to get those internship seats that haven't been given out in six months. This is what doctors are dealing with in our country. Concern authorities are requested to give the solution ASAP."

Further, the association pointed out that another batch of FMGs passed the screening test yesterday. Therefore, the non-allocation of the medical seats led to mental stress and a waste of time. Urging the National Medical Commission (NMC) to intervene, the association mentioned in another X post, "Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) in Haryana have been awaiting internships for six months, and another batch of FMGs passed yesterday. For the past six months, the Haryana Medical Council has not allocated seats, leading to increased mental stress and a waste of time. I kindly request @NMC_BHARAT to intervene and address these issues promptly, as the conditions of certain state councils are quite inadequate. As a supreme body, NMC should take action to resolve these matters."
Dr. Honey Chaudhary also raised the issue. Highlighting the matter, Dr. Chaudhary mentioned in a X post, "Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) in Haryana have been awaiting internships for six months, and another batch of FMGs passed as well. For the past six - seven months, the Haryana Medical Council has not allocated seats, leading to increased mental stress and a waste of time."
