Maharashtra: Even after UG AYUSH counselling process concluded in the state of Maharashtra, over 100 BAMS seats remain vacant.

Reports from media accounts suggest that around 100 BAMS seats are still vacant after the conclusion of the counselling process. BAMS is one of the preferred courses among the aspirants along with MBBS. There have been delays in approving extra seats and new college recognitions this academic year. Due to these delays, so many seats remain vacant, experts suggest.

Compared to the previous academic year, more colleges took part in the counselling process this academic year. This academic year more than 100 colleges took part in the counselling process. More than 7000 seats were available for BAMS this academic year.

The report from Free Press Journal suggests that as many as 11 Ayurveda Colleges were provided recognition in the month of November when almost the entire counselling process was already underway. After the admission deadline of 30th November 2023, a few colleges also got recognition.

An official from Maha CET Cell, while discussing with Indian Express, said, “The BAMS course does not see such vacancy, considering that this is the next best option for medicine aspirants, after MBBS. The number of seats increased; however, were included in admissions only much later in the process, due to which many candidates must have confirmed admissions in other courses.”

BAMS counselling in the state is conducted by Maha CET Cell. CAP stray vacancy round 5 was conducted in the month of November 2023. A total of 249 candidates were selected. The list was declared on 28th November 2023. The selected candidates were asked to report till 31st November 2023.
