Ahmedabad: Taking note of the rapidly increasing daily Covid-19 cases in the State, the Gujarat University has decided to postpone the upcoming Post-graduate Medical exams slated to begin from May 1, 2021.

Through a recent circular dated 06.04.2021, the University has postponed the PG medical examinations as the students were not getting enough time to cope with their studies along with their Covid-19 duties to deal with the pandemic.

The circular mentioned that the decision to postpone the PG medical exams have been taken after considering the current status of Covid-19 cases in the State and report given by the Medical Superintendent of the Civil Hospital.

The list of medical colleges affiliated to the Gujarat University includes B J Medical College and Civil Hospital, GMERS Medical College and Hospital (Sola), NHL Municipal Medical College and GMERS Medical College, Gandhinagar.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, considering the surging Covid cases at the 100-bed civil hospital, the hospital superintendent wrote to the dean of B J Medical College stating that in order to cope up with the situation, more manpower would be necessary. In the same letter, it had been mentioned that the students were finding it hard to study for their examinations while attending the Covid-19 duties at the same time.

Further, in that letter, the medical superintendent requested the authorities to consider postponing the PG medical examinations scheduled to commence from May 1.

Medical Dialogues had recently reported that taking note of the gravity of the situation and the increasing numbers of Covid-19 cases in the State, Gujarat Health Department had recently asked all the final-year medical students across government medical colleges in the State to immediately report for Covid-duty.

The Health Department, in a letter, addressed to GMERS medical colleges in Sola and Gandhinagar, GCS medical college Amdupura and AMC-MET medical college, Khokhra, had asked the 750 medical students who recently appeared for their final year MBBS exams to join Covid-duties on an emergency basis.
