ICMR Invites Applications For PhD Program for Research in Reproductive and Child Health, Check out details

New Delhi: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has invited applications for admission to PhD Program for Research in Reproductive and Child Health. The application process will continue till 24 June 2022.

The application form available at the NIRRH website (www.nirrh.res.in) https://phdappli.nirrh.res.in should be duly filled and submitted online on or before the last date. No hard copy will be accepted. The date of the interview and the final offline interview will be announced later.

National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health, Mumbai, is a premier institute of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The Institute is affiliated with the University of Mumbai for the award of the Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences, Applied Biology and Biochemistry.

The research can be carried out in the following areas –

1. Infertility and Reproductive Disorders

2. Immunological and microbiological attributes associated with HIV/STIs/RTIs

3. Maternal and Child Health

4. Reproductive cancers

5. Osteoporosis

6. Genetic Disorders

7. Stem Cell Biology

8. Reproductive Toxicology

Eligibility criteria 

1. Candidates who are Indian citizens and have Postgraduate degrees in any branch of life sciences or MBBS graduates or MD/M.Pharm degree holders.

2. The candidates should at least have 55% or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from higher secondary (10+2) onwards for General, OBC and #EWS categories and 50% for SC/ST/ PWD candidates in aggregate (or equivalent grade). If CGPA is not based on a 10-point scale, the candidate should provide a statement issued by the respective University indicating the conversion of CGPA to percentage.

3. Candidates who have appeared for the final examination in the academic year 2021-2022 and whose results are awaited are also eligible to apply. However, if selected, such candidates will have to submit the proof of qualifying marks before joining the Institute.

4. The candidate should have cleared the Ph.D. entrance test (PET) conducted by the University of Mumbai in any subjects of Life Sciences/ Applied Biology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Zoology/ Biophysics/ Bioanalytical Science/ Molecular Biology or CSIR-UGC NET (JRF or LS) or GATE (Life Sciences/ Biotechnology) with validity up to December 2022 or JRF examination conducted by national agencies such as ICMR/DBT or Valid DST-Inspire fellowship or MH-SET (Maharashtra State Eligibility Test for Assistant Professor) in Life Sciences.

5. Upper age limit is 28 years as of 30 June 2022 for General and EWS Category, 33 years for SC/ST/ PWD/Women candidates, and 31 years for OBC candidates.

Further, ICMR has notified that EWS is tentative and subject to further direction/clarification from the Government of India and is subject to the outcome of any litigation pending in the court of law. The candidates seeking reservations under EWS should fulfill the criteria prescribed by the Government of India. The benefit of reservation under EWS can be availed upon producing an Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority. Reservation will be as per the UGC rules followed by the University of Mumbai.

The candidates who belong to OBC and General category will have to pay Rs 300 as an application fee. SC/ST/PWD and EWS candidates are exempted from fee payment. This application fee is non-refundable and will have to be paid online. Applications without payment of required fees will be considered incomplete and disqualified.

The candidates can check the names of the shortlisted candidates along with the date and time for the interview on the NIRRCH and ICMR websites. Before the final interview, the list of Ph.D. guides and tentative titles of the research projects under them will be given. The final selection would be based on the performance in the interview in front of the selection committee.

The selected candidates who have passed the JRF examination conducted by CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT can avail fellowship as per the rules of the respective funding agency. Non-fellowship holders will be provided with an Institutional fellowship of Rs. 8000 per month only after successful completion of coursework and Ph.D. proposal presentation. It will be for 2 years only, and later these students are encouraged to seek fellowship from other funding agencies.
