Puducherry: Internships for the final year MBBS students will tentatively start from 1st February 2023, Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has announced this through a written notice published on its official website.

Students who clear all the subjects of the final MBBS Part II examination will have to deposit Rs.1500 to Tamil Nadu Medical Council as a registration fee through TNMC Portal. One group representative will have to report to the Academic Section immediately after the result declaration to facilitate the TNMC registration process.

JIPMER has further updated that all Interns will have to report on 1st February 2023 compulsorily. No late joining will be allowed under any circumstances.

The final year theory MBBS exam started on 4th January 2022 and continued till 13th January 2023. The exams were conducted between 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. The practical exams are scheduled until 23rd January 2023, starting today (16th January 2023). The subjects included in the theory exams were Medicine I, Medicine II, Pediatrics, and Obst. & Gynae I, Obst. & Gynae II, Surgery I, and Surgery II. Whereas practical exams include Medicine, Obst. & Gynae, Surgery, and Pediatrics.

MBBS admission across the country is based on the NEET UG entrance exam, which has been conducted by y NTA since 2019 for admission to undergraduate medical education, with the approval of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (vide O.M. no. V.11025/14/216-MEP dated 6th December 2017) and MHRD (vide Order No 35-5/2017-TS.I dated 24th September 2018).

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research is a medical school in Pondicherry. It is an institute of national importance (INI) and a tertiary care referral hospital. It is under the direct administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Indian Government, with autonomy to run its internal administration. The courses include undergraduate, postgraduate, super speciality, fellowships, PhD programs, post-basic diplomas, and certified courses.

JIPMER originated in 1823 as the Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry, established by the French Government. It was renamed Dhanvantari Medical College in 1956 at the time of the de facto transfer of Pondicherry to the Government of India. It was established on its current campus in 1964 and is spread over 1922 acres.
