Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) has announced the tentative internship date for final-year MBBS students.

As per the notice, the internship for the final year MBBS students will tentatively start from 06.07.2023. Students who clear all the subjects of the final MBBS Part II examination will have to deposit Rs. 1500 to Tamil Nadu Medical Council as a Registration fee through TNMC Portal. One group representative should report to the Academic Section immediately after declaration of the result to facilitate the TNMC registration process.

All Interns should compulsorily report on 06.07.2023. No late joining will be allowed under any circumstances.

MBBS admissions at JIPMER are based on NEET UG exam scores. The duration of the MBBS course is 4 years and 6 months, followed by 1 year of Compulsory Rotatory Internship for the award of the Degree.

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research is a medical school located in Pondicherry. It is an institute of national importance (INI) and a tertiary care referral hospital. It is under the direct administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Indian Government, with autonomy to run its internal administration. JIPMER imparts Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), and Super Specialty Medical Training through a large hospital complex (JIPMER Hospital) and a Nursing College. Some of the courses offered are MBBS, BSc, MSc, MD, MS, MDS, DM, and MCh Courses. Full-time PhD Programs are available in several disciplines.

JIPMER originated in the year 1823 as the Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry, established by the French Government. It was renamed Dhanvantari Medical College in 1956 at the time of the de facto transfer of Pondicherry to the Government of India. It was established on its current campus in 1964 and is spread over 1922 acres.
