MBBS, BDS Admissions: MCC reverts over 582 AIQ seats to Maharashtra, Punjab, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat
New Delhi: With the completion of the Round 2 AIQ counselling session, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has reverted around 582 unfilled MBBS and BDS seats to the respective states for further admission process.
According to recent media accounts, the MCC has declared 33 out of the 90 All-India Quota (AIQ) MBBS seats in three government medical colleges in Punjab as vacant. Authorities of Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) informed that 79 unfilled medical seats from AIQ returned to the state quota and 132 government MBBS seats were returned to Tamil Nadu whereas MCC surrendered over 260 vacant seats to Maharashtra. Meanwhile, 78 MBBS and BDS seats have been returned to Gujarat state
The second round of AIQ in undergraduate medical and dental admissions ended on December 8 and the DGHS returned all vacant seats to respective state governments, to include those seats in general CAP rounds.
"The seats of AIQ that have been left vacant on account of non-joining, non-reporting or resigning from students who were allocated seats in the national rounds after the second round are being reverted back to respective states," said the notification released by DGHS late on December 9. Maharashtra:
The MCC DGHS surrendered over 260 vacant seats from the AIQ to the Maharashtra state. Maharashtra received 222 MBBS and 40 BDS seats from the AIQ quota which will now be included across reserved and the open category and will be allotted in the second and consecutive seat allotment lists.
These seats belong to various government and civic-run hospitals across the state and the same will be included in the second common admission round conducted by the Maha CET Cell next week.
As per quotas, nearly 40% of the total seats will be allotted under the open category.
As per the information shared by the DGHS as reported by the Hindustan Times, the maximum vacant MBBS seats surrendered are in RN Cooper General Hospital, Juhu, with 20 seats, followed by 18 in MG Institute of Medical Sciences, Wardha, and 15 seats in Indira Gandhi Government Medical College, Nagpur. Sixteen and 10 seats each have been surrendered from the BDS AIQ in Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai and Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai, respectively.
After the inclusion of the AIQ seats, a new seat matrix will be released by the state CET cell soon, following which the second seat allotment list will be declared.
Gujarat:
According to a recent notification released by the Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Education Courses (ACPUGMEC) Gujarat, 78 AIQ vacant seats have been reverted by the MCC. These seats include 46 MBBS seats including 2 under PwD category. For BDS, 32 seats have returned including 2 under PwD category.
Punjab:
Three government medical colleges in the state offer 90 AIQ MBBS seats and these seats are filled by the MCC, for which candidates from across the country are eligible. 33 out of the 90 All-India Quota (AIQ) MBBS seats in these GMCs have been announced as vacant by the MCC.
These vacant seats — 14 at Government Medical College, Amritsar, 11 at Patiala and eight seats at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College at Faridkot — were reverted by the MCC to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), reports the Tribune.
Besides these MBBS seats, the MCC has also reverted 14 AIQ BDS seats to the BFUHS. Two government dental colleges at Amritsar and Patiala offer 14 BDS seats under AIQ.
Odisha:
The authorities at OJEE informed the Times of India that 79 unfilled medical seats from all India quota (AIQ) returned to the Odisha state quota.
Odisha has around 1513 MBBS and BDS seats in seven government and three private medical colleges. Of them, 1330 comes under the state quota and 183 are AIQ seats. After allotment of AIQ, 79 of these seats returned to the state quota.
After the first round of counselling, 276 medical seats are left for admission. After adding the AIQ, the total number of vacant seats is 355. Candidates can download allotment letters on December 12 after the publication of the second-round allotment. They can accept the seat by paying admission fees and downloading a provisional admission letter between December 13 and December 15. The tentative date of spot round counselling is December 20.
Tamil Nadu:
According to a recent report by the Edex Live, the selection committee of the Directorate of Medical Education allotted 93 MBBS and BDS seats on Thursday, a day after the Indian Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) returned 132 government MBBS seats that were surrendered by the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee to be filled under the All India Quota. According to the selection committee data, the MCC also surrendered 29 BDS seats, 15 of which are in government dental college and 14 in Rajah Muthaiah Dental College.
