MCC NEET PG counselling put on hold as SC cancels AIQ mop-up round over anomalies in 146 fresh seats

New Delhi: In a major update on NEET PG Counselling, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the DGHS, has put the mop-up round on hold in compliance with the Supreme Court orders.

The information to this effect comes from a recent notice released by the MCC on its official website informing that NEET-PG Counselling, 2021 has been put-on hold until further orders from the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India.

According to PTI, the Supreme Court on Thursday cancelled the All India Quota mop-up round counselling for NEET-PG 2021-22 admissions to "resolve the anomalies" over 146 fresh seats, which were not available for candidates who participated in round one and two of the process.

A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant and Bela M Trivedi directed holding of a special round of counselling for 146 fresh seats and allowed the students, who have joined the All India Quota (AIQ) or state quota in round two to participate in it.

The bench directed the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) to invite options from students within 24 hours and complete the process within 72 hours after the cut-off time for the options.

The bench clarified that all the directions have been issued in exercise of its jurisdiction under Article 142 of the Constitution.

As per the Livelaw report, the bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant and Bela M Trivedi passed the following directions:

On Wednesday, the top court had directed the Centre to maintain status quo till Thursday in the mop-up round of NEET-PG 2021-22 counselling and asked the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) to reconsider issues, including the decision of adding 146 new seats. 

Now, the NEET-PG Counselling, 2021 has been put-on hold until further orders from the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India.

"This is to inform all the candidates of NEET-PG Counselling, 2021 and the participating colleges that vide Order dated 30/03/2022 of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in W.P. (C) No. 174 of 2022, it has been directed as follows:

'9. In the meantime, in order to obviate any further complications arising in the matter, the Union of India shall ensure that the process for completing the mop-up round is held in the same position as it stands at present till the Court takes up the matter tomorrow.'" -- the MCC notification stated.
