Tamil Nadu: The MBBS seats in private and government medical colleges had already been filled through AIQ. However, 24 seats are still vacant in state-run colleges after 4 rounds of MBBS counselling.

Therefore, the Government of Tamil Nadu has requested the center to take necessary action to fill the seats.

In a discussion with Times Now, the state Medical Education and Health Minister Ma Subramanian said, "MBBS seats in private and government medical colleges had already been filled and of the All India Quota, AIQ of 812 seats, 24 of them have fallen vacant."

The health department has sent a letter to the center to fill these seats as early as possible. The officials said nearly 300 seats were lying vacant across the country under the AIQ. An affidavit had been filed in Supreme Court seeking more time.

New seats were added after the 1st, 2nd, and 1st Mop-Up round. 50 seats were added for Karpaga Vinayaga Medical College after round 1, 150 seats for Muthukumaran Medical College after round 2, and 50 seats for Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College after 1st Mop-Up round.

The candidates must pass class 12 with a minimum of 50% marks for the general category for admission. And those who are from SC/ST/OBC and PH categories need 40% and 45% marks, respectively, in the class 12 examination. In addition, they must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects. Candidates 17 years or above as of 31st December 2021 are eligible for participation.

The entire counselling process is online for seats under 85% state quota and 100% private colleges. Admissions are granted based on the choices filled, NEET-UG rank, seat matrix, reservation, and other factors. The counselling of the remaining 15% seats is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

The admissions are given only to candidates whose documents are verified. A self-declaration form at the time of the reporting to the concerned college is needed to be given by the candidates.
