Churachandpur Medical College in Manipur Struggles to Fill Unoccupied MBBS Seats Amidst Faculty Shortage
Guwahati: In the race for coveted medical college seats, 21 out of 100 MBBS seats at Churachandpur Medical College in Manipur remain unfilled even after the conclusion of the second round of counseling.
With the start of the second MBBS batch scheduled for September 11, the college has managed to attract only three students from the all-India Quota. Notably, a significant 85% of the seats at this medical college are allocated to the state quota.
According to a TOI report, Churachandpur Medical College, the exclusive medical teaching establishment in Manipur's hill regions, witnessed its inauguration in January, graced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Nevertheless, the college now confronts a significant issue. As of Thursday, it operates without regular faculty. Sources reveal that the previously appointed faculty members left due to ethnic conflict that erupted in May. Presently, the college relies on three senior resident doctors, who are not permanent staff, to manage its affairs.
