MAMC PG medical seat fraud! Man duped of Rs 33 lakh, lodges FIR
Sri Vijaya Puram: In yet another instance of a postgraduate medical admission scam, a man was recently duped of Rs 33 lakh by the promise of a PG medical seat for his daughter at Maulana Azad Medical College, (MAMC) New Delhi.
The victim, a resident of Sri Vijaya Puram, filed a complaint before the Pahargaon Police Station, claiming that the accused is from New Delhi and employed at the Nursing Office of Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi.
Following the complaint received from the victim, the police have registered an FIR under Sections 34, 419, and 420 of IPC, Nicobar Times has reported.
Allegedly, the victim had developed a friendly relationship with the accused. Over time, the accused gained trust and assured the victim's family that he could arrange a seat for the victim's daughter at MAMC, New Delhi.
Trusting the accused, the victim transferred Rs 33 lakh to the accused through multiple bank transactions. However, even though he followed up several times with the accused, allegedly no progress was made regarding the promise of securing a PG medical seat for the student.
As per the latest media report by Nicobar Times, the complainant further alleged in his complaint that when he started demanding the return of his money, initially the accused made excuses and later stopped responding to the queries altogether and even disconnected his calls.
While the complainant acknowledged his mistake of trusting the accused, he also emphasized that the individual had fraudulent intentions from the beginning. Accordingly, he requested the police to take immediate legal action under relevant sections.
This is not the only PG medical scam that has come to light in recent times. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that recently a doctor couple from Jamalpur, a trustee of a Karnataka medical college, along with three others were booked for allegedly defrauding a 56-year-old man from Gurugram of Rs 57.5 lakh. As per the complaint, they promised to secure his MBBS graduate son, a postgraduate seat in orthopaedics at a Bengaluru-based private medical college under management quota in 2022.
Following their alleged crime, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Gurgaon police investigated the matter based on the man's police complaint and found the allegations to be accurate. Subsequently, the Sector 50 police registered an FIR under sections 120B (B) (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and the accused 6 individuals were booked on Tuesday.
