MBBS, BDS at BFUHS: Check out admission process

Faridkot: Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) has informed about the admission process for MBBS and BDS courses for the 2022 session onwards.

As per the notice, all admissions of Govt. Quota seats/Management Quota Seats, including NRI and any Minority Quota seats, and any other Seats, whatsoever, in the Government & Private Medical/Dental Institutes, including Institutes under Private Universities and Minority Institutions, shall be based on the merit of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

Eligibility criteria for admission in Government & Private Medical/Dental Institutes, including Institutes under Private Universities and Minority Institutions for MBBS and BDS seats, will be in accordance with eligibility criteria/ qualifications/qualifying criteria as prescribed in the Information Bulletin for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) issued by NTA (National Testing Agency) for the corresponding year.

After the declaration of the NEET result, the candidates shall apply on the specific performa for all seats, except All India quota seats, to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot. The Admission Committee will make admission through a Centralized Counselling by BFUHS, Faridkot, based on inter-se merit of NEET.

The candidates from the reserved category shall have the right to compete for admission in General/Unreserved category seats as per their merit on the day of counselling. However, the selected Candidate shall not be counted towards admission in the reserved category.

The candidates note that the schedule of counselling, admission, and the start of classes will conform with the schedule laid by the National Medical Commission/Dental Council of India/ Hon'ble Supreme Court of India / State Government. BFUHS shall notify fee and other charges for submission of the application and counselling as per Government approval.

BFUHS has further notified that out of the total seats in Government Institutes, 15% of seats (All India Quota) in MBBS/BDS courses shall be filled by the Government of India through centralized counselling by the Medical Counselling Committee of DGHS, MOHFW, Govt. of India based on marks obtained in NEET. Rest 85% of seats shall be filled as per merit of NEET by the Admission Committee constituted by the Government of Punjab. The candidates can check the seat matrix on the official website.

The Candidate should be a bona fide resident of Punjab. The resident status of Punjab state shall be taken in terms of Punjab Government, Department of Personnel and Administrative reforms (PP-11 Branch) letter No. 1/3/95-3 PP 11/9619, dated 6th June 1996, and any further instructions issued by the Department of Personnel, if any, and the same shall be adhered to. A copy of notification No. 1/3/95-3 PP 11/9619, dated 6th June 1996, is enclosed herewith.

The following candidates are also eligible to apply –

1. Wards of defense personnel posted in Punjab.

2. Candidates seeking admissions under the NRI category.

3. Candidates belonging to minority communities who are competing for the minority quota in minority institutions.

4. Children/wards/dependents (whose parents are not alive) of all those regular Central Government employees, employees of Boards/Corporations/ Statutory Bodies of the Central Government who have remained posted inside Punjab for at least two years out of the three years preceding year of passing 10+2 examination but were posted outside Punjab for some time during these three years due to which their children/wards/dependents have passed class XI and/or XII or equivalent qualifying examinations from outside Punjab. However, those who remained posted in Punjab continuously for these three years shall not be entitled to be exempted as they are equally placed with other Punjab Government employees posted in Punjab.

If an adequate number of candidates is not available for the BDS course, then candidates who are not bonafide residents of Punjab may be considered as per NEET merit.

Reservation -

Government Medical/Dental Colleges –

1. Scheduled Castes - 25%

2. Backward Classes - 10%

3. Backward Area/ Border Area (1 % each) - 2%

4. Persons with disability - 5%

5. Sports Persons - 1%

6. Children/Grandchildren of terrorist-affected persons - 1%

7. Children/Grandchildren of Sikh riot affected persons - 1%

8. Wards of Defense Personnel - 1%

9. Wards of Punjab Police Personnel, Punjab Armed Police, Punjab Home Guards, and Para-Military Forces (in order of preference to the exclusion of the next category) - 1%

10. Children/grandchildren of freedom fighters of Punjab - 1%

Private institutes/Universities –

1. Scheduled Castes - 25%

2. Backward Classes - 10%

3. Backward Areal Border Area (1% each) - 2%

4. Persons with disability - 5%

5. Sports Persons - 1%

6. Children/Grandchildren of terrorist-affected persons - 1%

7. Children/Grandchildren of Sikh riot affected persons - 1%

8. Wards of Defence Personnel - 1%


The distribution of seats in Private Medical/Dental Institutions –

1. Government quota seats - 50%

2. Management/Minority quota seats - 50% (including 15% NRI quota)

Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Seats –

15% seats in all Private Institutes/Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Faridkot and 13 seats each in Govt. Medical College, Patiala, and Amritsar and 3 seats in Govt. Dental College, Amritsar, and 4 seats in Govt. Dental College, Patiala, shall be earmarked for the Non-Resident Indians in the following order -

1. Category I: NRI/Children of NRI who originally belong to the State of Punjab.

2. Category II: NRI/Children of NRI who originally belong to an Indian State other than Punjab.

The candidates and their parent/guardian will have to submit a sworn declaration that the candidate has not passed the qualifying examination from more than one Board / University and has not obtained admission in MBBS/BDS course in any other State / UT, except under All India Quota Seats.

The State filled by the Candidate at the time of filling out the NEET UG form shall be considered when calling application for State quota seats; only those candidates who have filled Punjab as Residential State will be considered.

Any candidate, who has been admitted in the previous session in MBBS/BDS course, shall be eligible to seek admission again in the same course, like a fresh applicant based on marks of NEET in the year of consideration based on NOC issued by the college where he is presently pursuing MBBS/BDS.

The University shall display a combined merit list of all candidates, including the reserved category, and a separate list of different categories which should be displayed on the University website at least 7 days before the counseling.

The admission shall be made to only those institutes approved by all the concerned authorities on or before the first counselling. Institute(s) which has applied for affiliation and/or for approval of competent authorities but cannot get affiliation and such approval from all the concerned authorities before this day shall not be considered for counselling.

Students claiming reservation benefits under the SC/BC category shall be required to produce a certificate from the competent authority per the latest instructions of Govt. of Punjab. Further, a valid Backward Class Certificate must be produced per the latest instructions of the Department of Welfare, Government of Punjab, in which the family's annual income is clearly mentioned.

Scheduled Caste/ Backward Classes category candidates shall be eligible to apply for Post-Matric Scholarship and reimbursement of the fee if they fulfill the terms and conditions laid down by the Department of Welfare, Govt. of Punjab. Furthermore, the Reservation of Physically Challenged persons shall be as per the provision of the Right of Persons with Disability Act 2016.
