MP NEET PG counselling 2026 process withheld: DME issues notice
Madhya Pradesh: Following a recent interim order issued by the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Madhya Pradesh, has withheld the admission process for the first round of the MP State Combined NEET PG Counseling 2026, with immediate effect.
This decision was communicated via an official notice.
The admission process will remain suspended until the High Court issues new directives or passes any further orders.
The authorities have not announced a revised admission schedule; this will be determined following the Court's next order.
In its interim order, the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed state authorities to ensure that the number of seats allocated to in-service candidates does not exceed 30 percent of the total seats available in each postgraduate medical subject or specialty.
While hearing a case challenging the admission procedure for postgraduate medical courses, the Madhya Pradesh High Court observed that the existing procedure appeared to give in-service candidates a double benefit by allowing them to avail both the 30% reservation quota and additional incentive marks for their years of service.
Noting that this was causing injustice to fresh candidates who had secured higher NEET PG scores, the court directed the state government to ensure that admissions of in-service candidates to MD/MS courses in Government and Autonomous Medical Colleges across Madhya Pradesh are restricted to the 30% quota reserved for them under the existing seat distribution system.
This development came after the merit list prepared by the DME for NEET PG admissions in the state was legally challenged.
However, the DME’s notice does not specify a new date for the resumption of admissions, nor does it provide a revised timeline for the remaining counseling activities. The next steps will depend on the High Court’s directives, following a review of the responses submitted by state authorities.
