NEET 2025 Chaos: Over 2,000 MP Students Affected, Next Hearing on May 29
Indore- The Madhya Pradesh High Court held another hearing recently on the ongoing National Eligibility and Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET UG) result case. The case has seen growing concern from students and parents, with over 60 petitions already filed from the two cities, Indore and Ujjain
Solicitor General Mehta sought more time, and therefore, the next hearing is now scheduled for tomorrow, i.e. Thursday, May 29.
According to a TOI media news report, before the hearing, the NTA had proposed the formation of an inquiry committee and submitted a report regarding the matter. Advocate Mridul Bhatnagar informed that "Alligator General Tushar Mehta appeared virtually at 2:30 pm and mentioned that he had done a statistical analysis in which the average number of attempts at questions from the affected centres was found to be almost equal to the attempts at centres near Indore."
Bhatnagar argued that centres near Indore do not have proper facilities and hence their efforts cannot be compared with those in Indore. He told the court that more than 60 petitions have already been filed from Indore and Ujjain, adding, "We have toppers from Indore and hence their efforts cannot be compared with those of students from nearby areas."
Meanwhile, the NTA's reply had said that the exam was affected at 24 centres in Indore, but in the latest reply submitted on Monday, the NTA clarified that the exam was disrupted at 18 centres in Indore and 6 centres in Ujjain, affecting over 2,000 students in total, reported TOI.
Around 27,000 students appeared for the NEET UG exam in 2025 in Indore, for which 49 centres were set up. The petition has requested the High Court to allow re-examination for the affected students who wish to appear for the exam again, and argued that students should get a fair opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.
Responding to this, Solicitor General Mehta said that the exam was conducted smoothly and peacefully. Bhatnagar countered this by emphasizing that NEET UG was not a regular exam and required uninterrupted power supply, which the NTA failed to ensure. In its official reply, NTA acknowledged that power supply was disrupted for durations ranging from 10 minutes to over an hour at several centres.
Even though at first the HC bench had stayed the NEET UG results for the entire country, later it modified the order after noting that the problem of power outage was limited to 11 centres only.
