NEET, NEET PG 2021: Check out the new AIQ quota for MBBS, PG Medical Admissions

The government on Thursday had announced quota for other backward classes (OBCs) and economically weaker section (EWS) category in the all-India quota scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental courses from the current academic year 2021-22.

The all-India quota consists of 15 per cent of the total available UG seats and 50 per cent of the total available PG seats in government medical colleges.

It has been decided by the Government of India to implement 27% OBC reservation (Non-Creamy Layer) and 10% EWS reservation in 15% UG and 50% PG All India Quota seats (MBBS/BDS and MD/MS/MDS) (Contributed by the State/UTs). This reservation will take effect from the current Academic session 2021-22, the MCC notification stated.

Consequently, the overall reservation in 15% UG and 50% PG All India Quota seats would be as follows:

1. SC.- 15%

2. ST.- 7.5%

3. OBC.- (Non-Creamy Layer) as per the Central OBC list- 27%

4. EWS- as per Central Government norms- 10%

5. PwD- 5% Horizontal Reservation as per NMC norms

In its notice, the exam conducting body for NEET 2021, the entrance test to MBBS and BDS courses across the country, National Testing Agency has said that its information bulletin stands modified based on the new reservation structure for admission to undergraduate medical courses under the all-India quota.

"The Information Bulletin for NEET (UG)-2021 stands modified mutatis mutandis," the NTA stated.

OBC students from across the country shall now be able to take this reservation in the all-India quota scheme to compete for seats in any state. Being a central scheme, the Central List of OBCs shall be used for this purpose. The scheme was introduced in 1986 under the Supreme Court's directions to provide for domicile-free merit-based opportunities to students from any state aspiring to study in a good medical college in another state, adds PTI.
